Subject: A vessel of truth
Hello Everyone!
This week was sooo cool and I have so many great stories that I want to share with you! A majority of this week was spent working with the people that are progressing to help them build their testimonies. But among meeting with all of our people being taught, we ran into an amazing guy named Jimmy.
It is a really cool story. We were just walking along and I noticed that that this man was sitting down and it was obvious that he was going through a hard time. I sat down with him and asked if everything was ok. It was in that moment that he asked why we were here, I explained to him that we are here to share with others about Jesus Christ and help them find joy in their lives. He then asked us to sit down and we have been able to share with him since. It was in that moment that I realized that God needs all of us to be a vessel of truth. A vessel of help. There are so many people around us going through challenges and struggles. They just need a friend to say hello.
Then I was also able to experience part of the culture that I never thought I would experience on my mission. I was able to eat a Filipino delicacy known as Balut. It is a duck egg that has a fetus in it. It's because one of the people that I helped come unto the gospel is from the Philippines and I told her I wanted to take part of the culture. So I did :)
We also had this awesome miracle with our friend, Josh. I was able to video call him and talk and read with him the Book of Mormon. He just ate it up and loved reading it. After we read together I asked what thoughts he had, and he explained that he felt he needed to pray and come to church more. I was happy with his answer. I absolutely LOVE helping other people come unto the gospel by themselves. I love helping them know and experience for themselves. It was later that night he called me excited, saying " Elder Carter, I was thinking about what we read today and I need to be baptized." All I could do is smile and say, "Ok, Josh. We will help you get there." :)
For this week my biggest take away, and the way I saw God's hand in the work is that agency is wicked important. God doesn't want us to choose for other people, but he want's us to be a great example and share with people along the way. A testimony and conversion comes through someone else experience for themselves. Then they will be able to choose what they know and feel is right!!
I love you all so so much! I know that the gospel is so true. If you don't, I invite you to just pray and ask God. "Is the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints God's Kingdom here on this earth?" You'll get an answer. I promise :)
Love,
Elder Carter
PS: Here are some extra photos, I know this is what everyone looks for anyways:)
