Subject: Going to a place I've never been before
Hello friends and family!!
This last week was an amazing week that I am really excited to share with you. Before we get into the spiritual aspect of the week, I have so many photos I would like to share with you from our last P-Day activity.
Just kind of a quick intro to IPoh, it is an older mining town, so not the most lively area in Malaysia and it is mostly known for being a good place to retire and settle down. It is a very quite place with not a lot of commotion. It may be small but it is the prettiest place I have ever been no doubt! This pictures will only be able to show a little bit of the beauty we see in IPoh.
We were able to go to a big Buddha Temple in a cave. It was absolutely gorgeous. I was breath taken by walking in this massive cave with rich Chinese culture everywhere, and even more geological history. Then I walked all the way through and it opened up to this gorgeous Zen looking garden. I think the best looking part was the geese that sound like dinosaurs. Maybe my dad is able to attach a short video of what those geese were like.
At first my companion and I were very scared we had no idea what these geese were capable of.
Then this week the Assistant to the President came to IPoh and did exchanges, that's when I was able to " Enter in a place I've never been before." It wasn't an actual place but I was able to try some missionary things out that I have been wanting to test out.
What I tried is just going around and talking to people. Haha, that's not the new part. But the new part is that I wouldn't bring anything up about the church unless they asked. So we would just talk, we would get to know each other, and then at some point they asked, " Why are you here?" or " What church are you from?" I would take that as a green light and start to open up just a little bit and then invite them to learn. It's never really been like this since I have been out. I have always felt that I need to have my "Pistols" ready to fire a message of the restoration, instead of just letting it happen. As we tried this approach we actual had found and taught more people this week then the last couple of weeks. One example is we ran into this wonderful family. They asked what we were here for and we simply answered " To help people get closer to God, would you like to know more?" They said yes and we had an amazing lesson at their home last night.
Lastly this week was General Conference and I LOVED IT. I don't think I have ever been this energetic about watching 8 hours of anything, but I loved listening to the words of the prophets and apostles. To make it even better I asked one of the sisters in the branch to teach me how to make " Chicken Rice" So that we could serve it to the branch for a lunch. I got way more than I asked for. Long story short we were taken to a butcher shop to pick 2 chickens and we were eating them for lunch that afternoon.
To get back to the sharing with people story I want to challenge all of you to do the same. As you are out and about meeting new people or even just at work and a conversation comes up, don't be scared to bring up God, or how you have seen His help in your life. It's seriously amazing how many people are actually praying for you right now.
I love you all and hope you have an amazing week!
Love,
Elder Carter
