Hello everyone!!
I'm back! I would like to have some super cool excuse talking about how I was in the mountains of East Malaysia where I didn't have service, so I couldn't write a group email. But in all reality I was at a loss for words and unsure what I should write about. But I have a lot of things that I want to share this week.
The first thing that I want to share is that I was able to assist in the baptism of Sister Then!! I wasn't the person that taught her but I translated for her a couple of times at the church. She is Chinese Indonesian so here Chinese and Bahasa are her best languages. But anyways it was funny. This was the first baptism that I have actually done my whole mission, and it was in Chinese. I don't know what happen but I kind of got stage fright and had to do the baptism 4 times because I kept saying it wrong. It was kind of just funny, and everyone smiled about it.
But on top of the baptism this week I learned a lot from this week. I have really been trying to figure out what my purpose is as a missionary. What I am actually suppose to do. Not to say I need to do the bare minimum, but what is my actual responsibility. And I learned it was to first be an example, second invite and council, third is to guide. It was cool. I called my mom and we talked a lot about how it's the same in everything. In the work place we must be an example, following rules and setting an example. Then we help others do the same, we council and talk with them, figure out how we can help them. Then guide. Don't do it for people but learn from people and let them learn. As we have been doing this we have seen miracles. For example we met with 3 different people this week who all were learning more about The Book of Mormon. So we opened it up with them and started to read. We showed them how they can feel the spirit and get answers on there own, and then they did.
The man in the picture above is one of the people we have done The Book of Mormon reading with. Its so cool since then he has opened up the Book of Mormon and searched for answers in his own life. He is working towards baptism here in just a couple of weeks. Here in Malaysia it's kind of cool. A lot of the Filipinos will come here and work, so Henry's whole family is like that. They all very rarely had off time because they all work everyday. But they all had an off day and we were able to their home and eat ADOBO. It's one of the greatest meat dishes I have ever had.
I also rarely send photos off photos of the food here. Here are some dishes.
This is called economy rice. It's kind of like a potluck, but in restaurant form.
You kind of just get a plate of rice and then add what ever you want on top.
I'll keep sharing pictures of things as I see them.
I guess from these last few weeks the biggest thing that I have learned is just have fun and keep it simple. I was getting so caught up in what I was supposed to do that a lot of times I was missing just doing it. I love that as I was talking to one of my aunts she said, "Don't make revelation complicated, just let it come." Ever since then I have just been so loose and loving every second of what's going on around me. God loves all of us, and He gave us this journey to enjoy. In Chinese the character for endure to the end are 持收到底 but I really like that someone told me 享受到底 which means to enjoy to the end. With that ends my email. Look for a way to enjoy to the end.
I love all of you so so much,
Elder Carter
